Description

In the footsteps of history, visit to the demilitarized zone of Vietnam

Between Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, the demilitarized zone of Vietnam, or DMZ, is a place full of history and emotion.
Located in the province of Quang Tri, two hours' drive north of Hue, this region was for nearly twenty years the border between North and South Vietnam, at the heart of the conflict that marked the 20th century.

Today, the DMZ is a place of memory and recollection, witness to the sufferings and courage of the Vietnamese people.
Accompanied by an English-speaking guide passionate about history, you will discover the emblematic sites of the Vietnam War: the tunnels of Vinh Moc, the Hien Luong bridge, the Ben Hai river that divided the country, as well as the former American base of Khe Sanh.

Far from being a simple excursion, this visit is a plunge into the heart of the past - a journey between memory, understanding and respect.
The now peaceful landscapes contrast with the poignant stories of the inhabitants, who testify to an exemplary resilience.

Discovering the demilitarised zone is to understand the depth of Vietnamese history, feel the strength of peace found and pay tribute to those who have rebuilt a country turned towards the future.

Planning of the visit to the demilitarized zone

Our English-speaking tour guide will meet you at the hotel, in the city center, around 9 a.m.

Take the road to Vinh Moc, to visit the famous tunnels housing an incredible complex that served as accommodation as well as clinic and others. The population of the region found refuge there to protect themselves from the American bombing.

Along the way discover the La Vang Church, sacred place where the Virgin Mary appeared in 1978 to protect the inhabitants during the war. Then take a photo break at Long Hung Church, a historical testimony of the damage of the war and a high place of resistance of Vietnamese soldiers.

Then visit the Bien Hai River Museum located at the former border between North and South Vietnam at the 17th parallel and the Doc Mieu Base, a stronghold of the French colonial era.

Finally after lunch, return to Hue.

Possibility to continue the visit with Khe Sanh and to discover the airport of Ta Con, former American military base built on a cliff 2 hours of extra trips and 1 hour of visit – departure at 8 a.m.

You will discover the beautiful landscapes of the region drawn by the primary forest and understand why the American soldiers were overwhelmed by the Vietnamese during the Vietnam War. You will also have the opportunity to discover the old planes and tanks that the Americans abandoned after their defeat.

Possibility to do a tour from Hue to Phong Nha through the Demilitarized Zone, extra of 2.000.000 VND for the group. After visiting the Vinh Moc tunnels, end of the tour with the guide and transfer to Phong Nha.

A unique memorial and cultural journey

Discovering the demilitarised zone of Vietnam is to undertake a journey through time, in the footsteps of a painful past but founder of the country’s identity.
Between memory, emotion and transmission, this excursion invites to understand the history of Vietnam through the places that shaped its destiny.

The tunnels of Vinh Moc, the Hien Luong bridge or even the base of Khe Sanh are not simple vestiges: they are living witnesses of the courage and resilience of the Vietnamese people.
By walking in these places of memory, the visitor becomes aware of the inner strength of a country that has been able to transform suffering into peace, division into unity, and war into a lesson in humanity.

Your English-speaking guide, passionate about the history of his country, shares with respect and emotion the stories of the inhabitants who lived these events.
These exchanges, imbued with authenticity, give a human dimension to the visit: they remind that behind each site, there are families, faces and stories of life.

But the DMZ is also a territory of rebirth.
The reconstructed villages, the green rice fields and the peaceful life that has resumed illustrate the capacity for reconstruction and forgiveness of modern Vietnam.
This harmony found between past and present makes this excursion a historical, spiritual and universal experience.

Participating in this visit to the demilitarized zone is paying tribute to memory, while celebrating the restored peace.
